Steven Tyler suggested to team up with Stephen King for next album

Boston Herald, MA
February 10, 2012

Steven Tyler is used to teaming up with Joe Perry. But what about Stephen King? The Aerosmith frontman was a bit perplexed when Jack Douglas, a producer on the band’s upcoming album, suggested he team up with the horrormeister for his next album. “They looked at me like I was crazy. I said, ‘No, I’m serious. If there’s anyone who’s going to inspire him, it’d be Stephen King,’ ” Douglas told Classic Rock Magazine. “Steven doesn’t need melody — he needs someone who’s going to inspire him as a wordsmith. I don’t want a guy who’s just writing hits right now.”

Aerosmith Announce Summer 2012 Tour

Ultimate Classic Rock
February 7, 2012

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has revealed that the band will indeed tour in 2012, but not until after frontman Steven Tyler finishes up his duties as ‘American Idol‘ judge. “Aerosmith U.S. Tour Starts In June! Tickets on sale in March,” Perry tweeted on Monday night.

Nothing else about the tour — including dates, venues, opening acts and length — has been revealed. It seems like the run could sync up nicely with the new Aerosmith album, which Perry recently said “has a feel like some of the early stuff” because they’re once again working with producer Jack Douglas ( who worked with the band on ‘Toys in the Attic,’ ‘Rocks’ and more).

“We’ve tried to bring that back,” Perry says. “People are always asking for something that sounds like the old stuff, but you can’t rewrite ’Mama Kin’ or ’Same Old Song And Dance.’ All you can do is start from the same place you started when you made those records….”

Steven Tyler and Carrie Underwood Blend Their Hits in 2012 Super Bowl ‘Crossroads’ Special

Taste of Country
February 5, 2012

Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler and Carrie Underwood took the stage together in Indianapolis, Ind. on Saturday to deliver a few of their collective hits for anxious Super Bowl fans. The special CMT ‘Crossroads’ road show aired live on the network, so even those far away from the football action were able to take part in the momentous music event.

Of course, the pair delivered a few of Underwood’s own staples, dueting on ‘Before He Cheats,’ which was interesting to hear from a man’s prospective. To even out the playing field, they also gave fans a soulful delivery of Aerosmith’s ‘Cryin’,’ with the blonde country starlet taking the lead on several parts.

It’s been just under a year since Tyler and Underwood first took the stage together at the 2011 ACMs, and they didn’t disappoint. To feed the palate of both country and rock fans, the iconic pair made mash-ups of a few of their songs, blending Underwood’s ‘Just a Dream’ with Aerosmith’s ‘Dream On’ before leading into a mix of ‘Undo It’ and ‘Walk This Way.’

MJsBigBlog reports that there were difficulties with the equipment mid-show, namely the bass player’s instrument, but Underwood kept Super Bowl fans entertained with a little dance across the stage and a line from pop rapper Nicki Minaj‘s ‘Super Bass.’

Steven Tyler defends national
anthem performance

Steven Tyler says he meant to sing the national anthem like that.

The Aerosmith frontman and “American Idol” judge endured plenty of jabs after his rendition of the anthem at the AFC Championship game last month, but Tyler says he doesn’t understand what all the fuss was about.

“I don’t know. As I said before, I put emphasis on, ‘In the land of the free’ and I went up,” Tyler explained. “Oddly enough I hit the note so I don’t know what they are talking about. I emphasized ‘free’ which was for freedom. It was well thought out prior to. I wasn’t messing with American tradition.”

Enduring negative criticism at that football game did not stop Tyler from enjoying pre-Super Bowl festivities with Carrie Underwood. The duo is in Indianapolis for CMT’s “Crossroads,” which brings acts from different genres together to perform. It’s not the first time the two have sung together: They performed a duet at the Academy of Country Music Awards last year.

“I just love to sing and I love her stuff. A good friend of mine writes songs with her. When I heard ‘Undo It,’ I said, ‘What is that?’ That is an Aerosmith song, right? I am going to finish recording that with you. He said, ‘No, I wrote that with Carrie, it is coming out in a week,’” he said. “I met her and it was all over after that, once I looked into her eyes. She opened her mouth and sang and she is that good. I loved singing with her.”

The two rehearsed Thursday evening in North Greenfield, just outside of Indianapolis, ahead of their scheduled Saturday show (it will air the same night on the network). The former “Idol” champ says she enjoys working with the lively Tyler because he “makes everybody all warm and fuzzy.”

While Tyler, closely connected to Boston for years, made clear he was rooting for the New England Patriots in Sunday’s game against the New York Giants, Underwood demurred when asked to name her pick. In her house, she says hockey is the main focus, since husband Mike Fisher is a professional hockey player in Nashville.

“He is Canadian so I have had to switch his focus from so much hockey to a little football because we watch a lot of hockey,” she said. “I love watching him and I love watching the Predators.”

Steven Tyler: Let’s Party at Elton John’s Oscar Bash!

EOnline.com
February 2, 2012

With awards season in full swing, wouldn’t it be nice to celebrate by partying the night away with Hollywood’s hottest A-listers at a huge awards show bash?

Well, you can!

A certain American Idol judge is giving two fans the chance to attend Elton John’s annual celeb-studded Oscar party to live the high life and mingle with the stars.

So who is it?

Steven Tyler! The Aerosmith frontman is auctioning off two tickets to join his and his fiancée’s table at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 20th Academy Awards viewing party Feb. 26 in West Hollywood.

“How would you have to dress if you were sitting next to me at a table at Elton John’s Oscar Party?” Tyler tells us in an exclusive statement. “Sounds like a loaded question, eh? Put your money where your mouth is and arrive as you will and come as you are to help me support the Elton John AIDS Foundation!”

The highest bidder and a guest will get to enjoy a cocktail reception, a dinner prepared by celebrity chef Cat Cora served during the Oscar telecast, an exciting live auction and an aftershow performance by Foster the People, all while surrounded by TV and films’ biggest names.

“All of us at EJAF are deeply grateful to Steven for his tremendous generosity over the past several years,” stated EJAF Executive Director Scott Campbell.

Last year, John’s bash drew celeb guests like Kim Kardashian, Emma Roberts, Vanessa Hudgens, Paul Rudd, Dianna Agron, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, Sharon Stone, Jane Lynch, Jamie Foxx, Chris Colfer and Heidi Klum. No doubt, this year’s fete will be just as fabulous!
