Rocker and newly minted “American Idol” judge Steven Tyler is among the celebrity presenters coming to Washington this weekend for the annual Kennedy Center Honors. Tyler will be performing for honoree Paul McCartney.
The Aerosmith lead singer and the Beatles icon have a long history together. The two first met in the 1970s, when Aerosmith covered The Beatles’s “Come Together” for the movie “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” (in which the band also appeared).
So far, Tyler is the only known performer ahead of Sunday’s ceremony, honoring McCartney, Oprah Winfrey, Merle Haggard, Jerry Herman and Bill T. Jones. The annual celebrity attendees at the event is notoriously closely guarded. Last year, Politico broke the center’s tradition of silence by exclusively releasing the list of performers. This year, however, sources tell Politico the list is much more hush-hush.
But to the fans looking to find them, check out the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, where the presenters will be staying.
